Installation and Connection of GEM

GEM3 is a compact but highly efficient Generator Management Device. The main unit is composed of Din Rail mounted Aluminum Unit. Graphical LCD and Push Buttons are used to scroll through the monitor able arameters and change settings of the device.
Note: Make sure that all Power sources are turned off before performing Installation/ Maintenance work
on any Electric/ Electronic Device

External Temperature Probe Behind The GEM That Sense The Temprature

GEM3 utilizes a Temperature sensor (T1) to keep track of environmental temperature and sensitive communication equipment' temperature nearby. The decision to release AMF based on temperature is taken on the basis of readings of this temperature probe.

Introduction To GEM

Saltec's advanced Generator Manager (GEM3) is a micro-controller based, add-on module to the existing conventional AMF/ATS of standby Genset, used in the present telecom applications such as BTS & BSC sites of wireless operators. GEM3 controls the generator switching by enabling or disabling (overriding Genset startup) the AMF on the basis of BTS system battery voltage and temperature of the room. The intelligence minimizes the generator running hours, which leads towards saving of fuel and subsequent wear and tear of generator. Reduction in Genset faults is also achieved, as frequent starting of Genset is avoided, especially in the areas where the utility power is extremely unstable.
GEM3 is a multipurpose smart device that accomplishes following basic optimizations;
Genset Fuel Saving Device, that controls the Genset operation based on Telecom site shelter
temperature and battery voltage condition
Dual GENSET Duty Cycle Controller (for Telecom sites powered only by Gensets)
Genset Testing Capability, to ensure Genset's operational readiness in time of Mains Failure.
Data Monitoring and Control Device, for Remote Monitoring Applications

Important Safety Instructions For GEM

When installing and using this electronic equipment, basic safety precautions should always be followed. Prior to connecting the unit, read the manual for proper connection and operating information. This manual provides safety, installation and operating instructions that will keep you safe and help you get the maximum performance and service life that the unit is designed to offer. It includes all important instructions for the safe use of this product, and for obtaining factory services if necessary. Future services and/or storage issues may arise and require reference to this manual.
Follow standard safety requirements when wiring and connecting a power source and sensors or other
devices to the unit. Failure to do so could result in injury or damage to the equipment.
Make sure that proper input voltage is applied to the controller. Improper voltage will result in damage to
the unit.
Caution:
Do not remove cover. No user serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

The equipment should be properly grounded. The unit should be kept away from Generator/ HVAC / Air Conditioner's exhaust & hot air. All terminal screws must be tightened securely. Terminal screws not properly secured can cause an electrical short and/or electrical spark that may damage the unit. Terminal screws improperly secured may fall into equipment causing possible damage to property or equipment.

Where GEM Is Connected On The Telecom Site

GEM is connected on the telecom site and it is more intelligent device that is very helpful for the generating power to the telecom site's.

Standard System Configuration

Dual Generator System Configuration – Duty Cycle Controller (for off-grid BTS Sites)

Complete BTS Site Telemetry Configuration – Excels Operations

What is GEM?

GEM is a very compact device, designed for Generator management and AMF control. This device is specially suited for telecom sites equipped with standby generators. This little device saves expenses by delaying the generator startups, while monitoring the site battery condition and the temperature. When there is a utility mains failure the iGEM holds the generator, and monitors the battery condition and the temperature. If the Site battery goes below the configured threshold point or if the temperature raises above pre-configured level the generator hold is released and is allowed to start. After the generator startup the Site Batteries begin to charge via installed rectifiers. During this time if the utility mains return the generator is shut down and the system goes to its default state of holding the generator. If the utility mains does not return while the generator is running the system monitors the battery condition and as soon as the batteries are fully charged, it stops the generator and lest the batteries discharge and the cycle goes on till the mains return. This function of iGEM not only saves precious fuel but also recycles expensive batteries, extending battery life over 30%. iGEM comes in a small compact package with a alpha-numeric LCD and touch switches for easy configuration and installation. The module is extremely versatile and can be used with any automatic standby generator with an AMF. iGEM comes with a serial communication option for configuration, logging and remote data monitoring.
